Paid music and video service YouTube Red will launched in multiple markets internationally this year, according to its chief business officer Robert Kyncl.
The news comes in addition to YouTube’s Head of Music Lyor Cohen’s promise of a new YouTube music and video subscription service this year, and along with Google Play, underscores Google’s disjointed paid music strategy.
Kyncl’s comments came in an interviewed with French financial daily Les Echos, where he also said that YouTube’s recent deal with Universal Music included the licenses to distribute its catalog on both a free and paid basis globally.
