Universal Music Group announced it is expanding its presence in the world of podcasting via a new partnership with indie podcast publisher Wondery. Under the terms of the deal, podcasts produced by Wondery will have access to UMG’s catalogue and its roster of artists.
The podcasts will be available globally on any platform Wondery makes its content available and will help build stories around existing UMG artists, labels and catalog.
According to UMG, the partnership will serve as an incubator for its growing slate of film and television projects and will help to create an audience around short and long-form programming from the company’s Polygram Entertainment and its numerous record labels worldwide.
The deal follows other content and content delivery companies in the music space who have made bets on podcasting, such as Spotify and iHeartRadio.
UMG has been developing and producing podcasts for local audiences around the world since 2012, the company said.
