Last year we were joined by Brainfeeder’s Iglooghost for an exclusive production masterclass. During the masterclass, the UK producer unveils the secrets behind his high octane Aphex Twin-sampling track, ‘Teef Chizzel’. Want in-depth daily insights into music production techniques? Check out our online courses.
Iglooghost is renowned for his forward-thinking production techniques, genre-bending releases and the weird and wonderful worlds he creates through his audio-visual narratives and artworks. His track ‘Teef Chizzel’ is a blistering hyper-trap beast which blends big 808 basslines with clattering bells and otherworldly metallic scrapes. Below, watch as he breaks down each element of the track showing how he combines instruments with random sounds to acquire that extra bite his songs are championed for. In addition, he talks about his experiences in the industry, how he’s found success in his career, made money on the fly as a solo artist and why you shouldn’t get a manager.
Although Iglooghost’s weapon of choice in the studio is Propellerhead’s Reason, and not Ableton or Logic Pro like many of our other tutorials, this masterclass proves that the DAW you use isn’t everything. He reveals how he arranges his tracks, how he makes his kicks hit so hard and the effects he uses to create those otherworldly sounds.
