In advance excerpts of the interview for CBS Sunday Morning, Swift confirmed her plan to correspondent Tracy Smith. Smith asked Swift about re-recording her past songs as a way to regain control of master recordings.
“Might you do that?” asked Smith.
“Oh yeah,” Swift replies.
“That’s a plan?” Smith asks.
“Yeah, absolutely,” says Swift.
After it was announced that Scott Brochetta had sold Swift’s former label Big Machine to Justin Beiber manager Scooter Braun, Swift took to social media:
“When I left my masters in Scott’s hands, I made peace with the fact that eventually, he would sell them,” she wrote. “Never in my worst nightmares did I imagine the buyer would be Scooter. Any time Scott Borchetta has heard the words ‘Scooter Braun’ escape my lips, it was when I was either crying or trying not to. He knew what he was doing; they both did. Controlling a woman who didn’t want to be associated with them. In perpetuity. That means forever.”
CBS Sunday Morning said that Swift addresses the controversy among other topics including “her songwriting process, growing up in the business, addressing her haters in music, her insecurities, her life today” during interviews at her home and in the studio.
Swift new album Lover, which drops Friday, has passed 1 million in pre-sales.
