Each month, we catch up with Point Blank students and alumni to showcase their successes since studying with us, giving you an insight into how music industry careers are established and nurtured right here at Point Blank. In July 2017, we’re catching up with a diverse set of breaking talent: DJ/Producer Kishan Bodalia (Bodalia), Los Angeles based DJ/Producer Kim Pohas (Mojave) and DJ Ronnie Loko. Want to join them? Check out our London, Los Angeles, Ibiza, Mumbai and online course pages to begin your own journey to the top.
Kishan Bodalia (Bodalia – Mixing Electronic Music)
Kishan Bodalia studied on our online Mixing Electronic Music course last summer. Since then, he has won a global DJ contest, played at Tomorrowland, produced regular mixes/mashups for the BBC and recently performed a 25-minute exclusive mix for DJ Charlesy on his prime-time Saturday evening Capital XTRA show. On June 1st, he released his first official remix, which went on to be released globally on Sony Music, Ministry of Sound and Ultra Music. “This course really helped to develop and refine my mixing techniques,” he says. “I have recommended it so highly to my friends.”
Moving forwards, Kishan has just signed to major booking agent Coalition Talent, as well as receiving press coverage from Your EDM and working on some new music for major record labels such as Island Records. You can keep up with him on his Facebook and YouTube pages.
Kim Pohas (Mojave – Intro To Music Production: Ableton Live)
Kim Pohas (Mojave) joined us at Point Blank Los Angeles in the spring of 2016, taking our Intro to Music Production: Ableton course. Prior to this, she’d had 12 years of classical/jazz experience with wind instruments, an intermediate understanding of music theory and a basic knowledge of piano/guitar and Pro Tools. Having been completely self-taught in DJing, Kim decided she wanted to take it more seriously, whilst simultaneously learning production. Where better to head than PBLA! “After speaking with the instructors at a PBLA open house, I felt at home immediately.” She says. “This was absolutely the place for me to jumpstart the production side of my career.”
“My experience totally exceeded my expectations, empowered me, and changed the course of my life. I could not have had better instructors – knowledgeable, professional, and absolute top experts in their fields. I came away from the course with a solid foundation in Ableton, production hardware (while attending, I built out my home studio), made new friends and felt further plugged into the LA scene. I learned in those four months what would’ve taken me potentially years to teach myself.”
Since studying with us, Kim has played a variety of respected venues across the USA, opened for John Tejada, Maxxi Soundsystem and Noir to name a few and has been performing regular guest mixes on Plastic Love Radio and Trip Report. In March, Kim landed an additional radio DJ residency on Barcelona City FM, before landing a DJ residency with SoCal house/techno collective Modern Disco Ambassadors. Looking forwards, Kim will be opening for Matt Lange on August 2nd, as well as making a Las Vegas debut headlining at Soul State. She is also aiming to have an EP out by December this year. You can follow Mojave on her website.
Ronnie Loko (Complete DJ)
Ronnie Loko studied on our Complete DJ course in London. With the knowledge and guidance of instructors Ben Bristow and Nigel Hosten, Ronnie has gone on to play at top venues across the UK and overseas, including Egg LDN, Boxpark, Alchemy, Ministry of Sound, Fire and more. His label, Rapture LDN, provides a platform for up-and-coming musicians to release their music globally, and Ronnie has a few remix projects in the pipeline as well as a regular radio show,’The Loko Effect’. On his time at Point Blank, he says, “I would definitely recommend the Complete DJ course at Point Blank to anyone wanting to learn or enhance their DJ skills, both casually and as a career!” You can keep up with Ronnie on his website.
