Spotify Revises WMG Statement, Issues Full India Launch Press Release

image from storage.googleapis.comWords have become weapons in the battle between Spotify and WMG’s Warner/Chappell Music publishing. Overnight, Spotify clarified one of their jabes, alongside a fill announcement of the streamer’s launch in India.

In the intro to Spotify’s approved statement the streamer referred to Warner/Chappell’s move for a court injunction as having been “denied.” Overnight, Spotify amended that statement to say that the request for an injunction was “not granted.”  It’s a small but important distinction. The statement that followed remains the same:
“We’re pleased with today’s outcome. It ensures songwriters, artists, labels and publishers will benefit from the financial opportunity of the Indian market and that consumers will enjoy an excellent Spotify experience. As we’ve said all along, we’re hopeful for a negotiated solution with Warner based on market rates.”
Despite the ongoing legal and PR battle,  Spotify launched in India yesterday, defying WMG, the third largest music group.
