As an avid Logic user looking to tighten up her skills in Ableton Live, Kim decided to enrol on a PBLA course. She’s currently studying the Music Composition and Music Production courses, including the Intro to Music Production: Ableton Live module and has decided to share her PB journey with us as it unfolds. Below, find the first update from Kim as she enters the world of Point Blank.
As someone who has used Logic religiously for nearly a decade, I have been hearing lots of encouragement from colleagues in the dance community that I should make the switch to Ableton. I had been considering it for some time and thought there would be no better time than now to sharpen up my skill set while taking some time off to work on my new record. I wanted to avoid the YouTube click-hole instruction that tends to have no chronology in the learning space. I also wanted to learn the DAW inside out from the beginning and have someone there who could answer my questions throughout the process. After asking around various people in the industry, Point Blank seemed like an obvious choice for me. Learning can begin at all levels and with the ever-changing technology of production, there is always room to grow.
Just two weeks in, the intro course to Ableton has been an eye-opening experience. The first pro that I noticed is how Ableton streamlines the creative workflow. I’ve not seen any DAW that supports on-the-fly ideas in this way. It makes for “happy accidents” — strokes of musical genius that can take you in an exciting new direction with your music.
As I mentioned before, I’m currently working on my third record and will be using Ableton along the way. I will continue to share more about my journey as we get deeper into how powerful this daw actually is.
Stay tuned for more, Kim Anh.
