Rapper Chad Arrington, aka Chad Focus, may not have been all that he was cracked up to be. Arrington promoted his alter-ego with a giant billboard in Times Square, showing him surrounded with stacks of money. He also spent $65,000 on jewelry.
There were also dozens of other billboards across Baltimore and Washington, D.C., according to The Daily Beast, and Arrington was willing to teach others how to become rich.
To his credit, one of Arrington’s songs had more than 4 million views on YouTube and more than 180,000 followed him on Instagram.
However, according to prosecutors, Arrington faked his whole career with $4.1 million stolen from his employer’s company credit card, according to MSN. All of the success – including the Instagram followers – were allegedly paid with the stolen money. That includes allegedly spending $100,000 on hats.
Arrington is now being held in a Baltimore jail, facing identity theft and wire fraud charges.
Arrington left copious records of the fraud scheme, according to prosecutors.
