Prince’s "The Very Best Of" Tops U.S. Chart This Week

PrinceThe Very Best of Prince is the #1 album in the U.S. this week (April 15 – 21, 2016) with over 121,000 album project units, according to BuzzAngle Music. The number is particularly impressive since almost all of the sales came on a single day, the day of his death and the last day of the sales week.
Prince charted 4 of the Top 10 albums for the week through overwhelming sales on a single day, Thursday, the day of his tragic death.
 
Purple Rain was second at 91,113. A Sailor’s Guide to Earth, the new release from Sturgill Simpson, was the leading album going into Thursday and finished third with 51,802 album project units. Santana IV, the new release from Santana, finished at #5 with 37,276 album project units.

Purple Rain was the top selling song of the week with 120K song sales. Prince also had four of the 10 top selling songs for the week. The others were Little Red Corvette (#5), Kiss (#7), and Let’s Go Crazy (#8).
