Popular sleep and meditation app Calm and has named its first head of Music, Courtney Phillips, UMG’s former Director of Brand Partnerships. And don’t for a minute that Phillips made is to bring more sleep-inducing instrumental music to the platform.
Working closely with Calm’s leadership and content teams, Phillips will be tasked with growing Calm’s music library, which includes everything from ambient sounds to custom tracks. In the past, Calm has partnered with the likes of Sam Smith, Above & Beyond, Sabrina Carpenter, Sigur Rós, Moby and others to produce original compositions.
In addition to two stints with Universal Music Group, Phillips previously worked in the endorsements department at William Morris Endeavor and ran partnerships and festival events for Filter Magazine.
To date, Calm has garnered 60 million downloads and 2 million paying subscribers.
