Brighton label Tru Thoughts is celebrating two decades of innovative vinyl releases this year. From downtempo instrumentals to heavy club tracks, through reggae, dub and hip hop to folk, jazz and soul-influenced singers and songwriters, the label really has done it all.
“As we celebrate 20 years of the label it is very exciting to have releases lined up from new artists alongside more established artists and to have a great variety of genres,” says co-owner and A&R head Robert Luis.
Formed in 1999 by Luis and Paul Jonas, the label was originally started as a home for some of the exciting music being produced by the regular guests at their Brighton club nights. To give you an idea of the duo’s flavor, Tru Thoughts’ first release was Bonobo’s cult classic debut, Animal Magic.
Still going strong 20 years on, and now with a sister office in LA, Tru Thoughts has released over 120 albums since its inception and continues to be 100% independent.
The label’s roster currently includes Quantic, Nostalgia 77, Alice Russell, Moonchild, Sly5thAve, Anchorsong, The Seshen, The Bamboos and many more.
