Australian busker-turned-breakout- artist Tones and I, whose single “Dance Monkey” is #1 on Spotify’s Global Chart, is the first Australian to achieve this position. The rapid chart accession of her catchy pop song comes in large part because of the support of Spotify’s global editorial team.
As of this weekend, the song is #1 in 16 countries on Spotify, and in the top 3 in 25, including markets like the UK, France, Germany, and Norway. It’s been streamed almost 223 million times globally and is already 4x Platinum in Australia.
Spotify added the song to various international playlists in early June, with huge initial support in the Nordics, where she continues to top Spotify charts across the region. This curation is in part what helped transition “Dance Monkey” from an internet sensation to a certified global chart topper. “My music is being heard all over the world,” Tones says, “and Spotify has had a huge part in that!”
Becky Bass, Global Hits Lead, says:
“Dance Monkey exemplifies the unique strength of our global editorial team. Thanks to regular communication and collaboration across territories and genres, Tones and I swiftly moved from local playlists in Australia, to the Nordics, the US, and multiple other markets, ultimately earning a spot in Today’s Top Hits in July — three months later, it remains one of the most popular songs in the list.”
