Facebook is rolling out a feature that could challenge Patreon as a fan monetization tool. Some Facebook video creators are being given the option of charging fans $5 to view their content on the platform.

In an effort to keep its video creators happy and adding new content, Facebook has been testing paid fan subscriptions. The fan patronage subscription model is a direct challenger to Patreon and Kickstarter’s Drip.
Subscriptions currently cost $4.99 a month.
Facebook apparently is not taking a fee, at least during the test period, according to recode. But Apple and Google are processing transactions and the standard 30% that they charge for in-app purchases means creators will net about $3.50 per subscription.
