Looking to elevate your small business’s videoconferencing game? Microsoft might have just the thing.

By teaming with startup “Kind” on plant tracking apps, it’s breaking a corporate no-no.

We’ll give you a hint: It gives the Windows maker a network of professionals that will potentially buy its services.

‘Today is a re-founding moment for LinkedIn,’ Reid Hoffman, chairman of LinkedIn’s board, said in a statement.

Jonathan Tinter, corporate vice president at Microsoft, said the company was keen to tap into Xiaomi’s young, affluent and educated users by having its products pre-installed on their devices.

Microsoft is willing to financially support companies that are building awesome apps for HoloLens, or that are creating tools for the Azure cloud that help developers make and market their software.

The new division will be more like Google Ventures, which takes risks on young companies for a potentially huge return.

The U.S. company said it would shed up to 1,850 jobs, most of them in Finland, and write down $950 million from the business.

‘You don’t want to over hype it and get people very disappointed, and that’s what happened with Google Glass,’ said investor Tipatat Chennavasin.

Microsoft, however, says it intends to continue developing Windows 10 Mobile and support to Lumia phones and devices.
