The Orchard is happy to break out the candles and cake to congratulate the one and only Burnside Distribution on their 25th anniversary!

Founded by Bill McNally, Terry Currier and David Cobb in 1994, Burnside has withstood the test of time by keeping a pulse on what’s next, no matter the genre. Distributing a roster of over 700 labels and 3,000 titles, the Burnside team has worked with the likes of Blind Pilot, Taj Mahal, Poliça and, of course, Children’s folk hero Caspar Babypants.

The label rang in their quarter-century celebration with great releases, including a new LP from Idaho folk-pop duo Shook Twins. Made up of identical twin sisters Katelyn and Laurie Shook, Shook Twins put out their fourth studio record Some Good Lives on January 11, 2019, receiving warm reviews from the likes of Paste Magazine and Pop Matters. Check out the video for “Stay Wild” below.

What’s next for Burnside? For one thing, they are showing no signs of slowing down with a packed 2019 release schedule. For example, we have Anna Tivel‘s upcoming album The Question, which arrives April 19Her fourth studio LP and a followup to 2017’s incredible Small Believer, Tivel’s new album contemplates the biggest question: “It feels like this similar thread between the songs is sort of grappling with trying to figure out the meaning of a bigger thing and struggling with that — just the humanness of spending a whole lifetime struggling to figure it out when maybe it’s figuring out the struggle is the thing that actually gives it meaning.” If you haven’t heard her sound, get familiar with her Audiotree Live session below.

Happy 25th birthday Burnside, and cheers to many more!
