Apple is considering an investment in iHeartMedia, according reports. One source suggests that the tie-in could be more of a major marketing partnership than traditional investment.
The discussions between the two companies are reportedly still in the preliminary stages.
A Very Different Approach Than Spotify
Apple promoting Apple Music or perhaps even Beats 1 using America’s largest group of radio stations is in interesting twist that would bring iHeartMedia some much needed cash.
It is also an approach diametrically opposed to that being taken by both Spotify and Pandora with new owner SiriusXM, who have made clear their intention to replace traditional broadcast radio all together.
