YouTube has been working to to make its network more creator friendly, with better conversion tools, analytics and now a direct to fan social network that enables creators to communicate with fans. But will it be enough to fight off Facebook and other competitors?

A new Community tab on YouTube channels offers You Tube creators tools to engage with viewers beyond the video. Creators can now use text, images and animated GIFs to engage fans between uploads.
Viewers can see the posts in the Subscriptions feed on their phones; and opt in or out of getting a notification anytime there is a new post.
“This is a first step,” YouTube said in their launch announcement, “and, with creator and fan feedback, we look forward to rolling out new features and functions as well as including more creators in the months ahead.”
