Did Spotify just share a big hint that is is investing in The Orchard? Days before the streamer announced an investment and partnership with DistroKid, it prominently featured the DIY distributor as the only logo on a page announcing its Spotify Preferred Distributor program.
Now a logo for The Orchard has been added; and there is still none for “Preferred” distributors CD Baby and EmuBands or “Recommended” distributor FUGA.
Since it is currently owned by Sony, The Orchard should have no need for cash. But Spotify is known for making unconventional moves that upend current music industry paradigms.
So far, neither party has commented.
