Sitting at the midpoint of summer, the finest in memory in Britain (and everywhere else likely just fine as usual), making plans can feel a touch melancholic with the end in sight. Well, we’ve organised a super special masterclass on 24 August to allay those late-summer blues, with Ferry Corsten. It’s no exaggeration to say the Dutch producer is trance royalty, championing the sound and pushing its boundaries since the mid-nineties. Attendance is open to students only and is totally free. Join us at 1pm on 24 August at our Orsman Road studios. To RSVP please email arran@pointblankmusicschool.com
The event comes off the back of Corsten’s latest project, UNITY, in collaboration with a host of massive artists across the spectrum of trance music. The first release, ‘A Slice of Heaven’, was made with Paul Oakenfold, with seven more tracks following throughout the year. As such the masterclass, hosted by our head of content DJ Ravine, will focus on the collaborative process and what working with someone else can bring to creation, centred around the latest track from the collection, ‘Rosetta’ with Jordan Suckley.
Ferry Corsten has been at the forefront of trance music since he burst on to the scene in 1997. Tracks like ‘Air’ under the name Albion and ‘Out of the Blue’ under System F became international hits at the height of the music’s powers. He went on to remix some of the biggest artists of any era like U2, William Orbit, Duran Duran and Public Enemy and touring the world over. Unlike many of his peers, Corsten has largely stayed true to his original trance sound and cemented his place among the pantheon of pioneers. As you can expect, we’re super excited to have him visit the school.
Insights such as these are a fantastic resource for budding producers, but here at Point Blank, they make up just a small part of our music production teaching methods. For the most comprehensive instruction around, take a look at our BA (Hons) in Music Production and Sound Engineering degree, also available to study online. Both are quality-assured by Middlesex University. If a three-year degree seems like more commitment than you’re after, we also offer several short courses to suit all levels, like Introduction to Music Production or Mixing and Mastering. As always, get in touch if you have any questions.
