Wiz Khalifa Sues Former Label, Manager

image from www.celebrityaccess.comHip hop artist Wiz Khalifa has filed a lawsuit against his former manager Benjy Grinberg and his first record label, Rostrum Records. Khalifa is seeking the termination of the 360 deal he signed with Rostrum as a teenaged up-and-coming Philadelphia rapper, alleging that both Grinberg and Rostrum engaged in self-dealing.

image from www.celebrityaccess.comKhalifa’s suit claims that Grinberg and Rostrum made an unknown amount of revenue from each of the six releases (1 album, 5 options) stipulated in his contract, and made deals with Warner Bros. and Atlantic for Khalifa’s recordings while intentionally concealing material information, Billboard reported.

Khalifa terminated his management deal with Grinberg in 2014. Through the lawsuit, he is seeking $1 million in compensation as well as punitive damages and attorney fees.

Grinberg told Billboard that he was disappointed by the lawsuit. “To witness an artist turn on you after supporting them for a number of years is very disheartening,” Grinberg said in a statement to Billboard. “This is an egregious lawsuit filled with inaccuracies, yet unfortunately people sometimes resort to these practices as a way of conducting business.”
