“Humility” is a song by British virtual band Gorillaz featuring American jazz guitarist George Benson. It was released on 31 May 2018 along with “Lake Zurich” as the first single from their upcoming sixth studio album, The Now Now.
The song was first announced on 30 May 2018 when Zane Lowe confirmed The Now Now’s release, and stated that Damon Albarn would be debuting the song on the Beats 1 program the following day. The next day, the song debuted with a music video featuring Jack Black and was digitally released along with another single, “Lake Zurich”

In an interview with Q Magazine in September 2017, Albarn hinted at another potential Gorillaz album being in production. He mentioned enjoying the spontaneity of recording and debuting music while on tour, similarly to the band’s 2010 release The Fall, but expressed desire to make it a comparatively more “complete” record, adding that “If we’re going to do more with Gorillaz we don’t want to wait seven years because, y’know, we’re getting on a bit now”.At the end of the same month on 30 September 2017 while touring for Humanz, the band debuted a new song in Seattle, introduced as “Ode to Idaho”. Hewlett confirmed later on in December 2017 that the band plans to release a follow-up album to Humanz in 2018, citing a desire to keep the band going rather than take any prolonged breaks as the band had usually done with previous projects. Hewlett has described several of the demos and new material as a “new direction” for the band, and has stated that he hopes to move the band’s artwork in a similar direction. During their performance in Chile, Albarn confirmed that the new album is coming “very soon” and premiered a new song called “Hollywood” featuring Jamie Principle and Snoop Dogg. On 26 May 2018, the album was officially announced to be titled The Now Now, with a release date of 29 June. On 31 May, the single “Humility” was released alongside the song “Lake Zurich”.
With the announcement of The Now Now, the band also introduced a new fictional band member, Ace. In the story, Ace is a temporary replacement for Murdoc, who has been incarcerated.
Gorillaz are a British virtual band created in 1998 by musician Damon Albarn and artist Jamie Hewlett. The band consists of four animated members: 2-D (lead vocals, keyboards), Murdoc Niccals (bass guitar), Noodle (guitar, keyboards), and Russel Hobbs (drums and percussion). Their fictional universe is explored through music videos, interviews, and other short cartoons. In reality, Albarn is the only permanent musical contributor, and often collaborates with other musicians.
With Gorillaz, Albarn departed from the distinct Britpop of his band Blur and explored influences including hip hop, electronic music, and world music through an “eccentrically postmodern” approach.[1] The band’s 2001 debut album Gorillaz sold over 7 million copies worldwide.[2] It was nominated for the Mercury Prize, but the nomination was withdrawn at the band’s request.[3] Their second studio album, Demon Days (2005), went six times platinum in the UK[4] and double platinum in the US,[5][6][7] and has sold over 8 million copies worldwide.[8] The band has won other awards, including one Grammy Award, two MTV Video Music Awards, an NME Award and three MTV Europe Music Awards.[9]
The third Gorillaz studio album, Plastic Beach, was released in March 2010. The fourth, The Fall, was released in December 2010 as a free download for fan club members, then in April 2011 as a physical release. In 2017, after a five-year hiatus, Gorillaz announced their fifth studio album Humanz.[10] Their sixth studio album, The Now Now, will be released on 29 June 2018.[11] Gorillaz have been nominated for ten Brit Awards and won Best British Group at the 2018 Brit Awards.
