Over the weekend, Radiohead self-released it’s new album, “A Moon Shaped Pool.” making it available for sale on their own web site, iTunes and Amazon. Unlike other like-minded artists critical of streaming, Radiohead chose not to window its release making it instantly available for streaming on Apple Music and Tidal. Conspicuously missing is Spotify.

In the past, Radiohead front man Thom Yorke has been very critical of Spotify, which also offers a free ad supported music option, calling it “the last desperate fart of a dying corpse,” and saying, “I feel like as musicians we need to fight the Spotify thing. I feel that in some ways what’s happening in the mainstream is the last gasp of the old industry. Once that does finally die, which it will, something else will happen.”

Spotify issued this statement: “Radiohead’s new singles ‘Burn The Witch’ and ‘Daydreaming’ are already available on Spotify, and we look forward to making the rest of ‘A Moon Shaped Pool’ available on Spotify as soon as we can.”
