• In what is perhaps a sign of the spirit of the age, Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival has announced that they are adding a new stage that will be devoted to hip-hop and dance music.
• Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba announced that they have acquired online ticketing company Damai.cn, as the tech company seeks to expand its footprint in the entertainment world. According to Reuters, Alibaba said the acquisition of the ticketing company “fits nicely into our ‘health and happiness’ strategy and forms a strategic part of the value chain in our media and entertainment business.”
• UK-based media and entertainment company Global announced that they’ve expanded their festival portfolio after taking majority stakes in Victorious Festival and Hideout. Victorious is an award-winning family-oriented festival in Portsmouth that draws 100,000 visitors across the August Bank Holiday weekend. The line-up for the festival this year includes Stereophonics, Madness, Franz Ferdinand, and Elbow.
• Chuck Barris, a prolific television producer whose game shows were a staple of daytime television for years, has died. He was 87. According to NBC News, publicist Paul Shefrin confirmed that Barris died of natural causes Tuesday afternoon at his home in Palisades, New York.
