Kwame Kwaten Music Industry Mentor: Student Success Stories

Just one of the perks of studying at Point Blank is the opportunities we offer our students. Using our deep ties with the industry, the contacts we can provide and career-kick-starting mentoring sessions we give to our students, Point Blank delivers the best music education has to offer.

Our student mentoring sessions are led by Kwame Kwaten, Point Blank’s in-house A&R and Lead Student Advisor. Having had a #1 in the dance chart with his band D Influence, signed to Atlantic Records, been shortlisted for a Mercury Prize, supported the likes of Michael Jackson, Prince, James Brown and managed the successful Laura Mvula and Shola Ama, Kwame brings his depth of musical knowledge and experience to both our label project and our students. Following a 2-year stint at Believe Digital as Senior A&R, Kwame Kwaten is fully equipped to provide our students with solid industry insights. If you’d like to benefit from exclusive 1-2-1 meetings and track feedback sessions with Kwame, be sure to enrol on one of our London or Online courses. Plus, we’re currently offering 25% off our selected Online and LA courses – just be sure to use the code ONLINE25 and LA25 when enrolling. This offer ends on 28th September.

Over the last few months during the lockdown, Kwame’s mentoring sessions have continued – and our students have really benefited. Here’s what they had to say.

Two Point Blank students, in particular, have seen great success recently, in part due to their work with Kwame. Check out their stories below.

LUADSANT

LUADSANT, who featured in our Point Blank Studio Sessions series last year was encouraged to bolster her social media presence. This resulted in her being spotted by Grammy Award winner and Travis Scott, Pharrell Williams and James Blake collaborator, Rosalía. The Spanish singer-songwriter shared one of Lua’s posts on her multi-million follower Instagram account subsequently resulting in her management team contacting Lua and her gaining thousands of followers on the social platform overnight.

Paul Schulze

Paul Schulze took our BA (Hons) Music Production & Sound Engineering Degree (2 Years) and feels he benefited greatly from Kwame’s sessions as well as our opportunities. He’s just signed his brand new single, ‘Good Vibes’, with the Swiss imprint Sirup Music, the label behind Avicii, Nora En Pure and Nicky Romero.

Speaking about his time at PB, Paul Schulze said: “Point Blank enabled me to connect with other musicians and raise the quality of my productions to a professional level. Especially the Production Portfolio module, where I produced a five-track EP, helped to grow as a producer and finish more music.

For me, one of the most valuable opportunities at Point Blank was the mentoring sessions with Kwame Kwaten. The meetings helped to obtain a better understanding of the music industry and his feedback gave me directions on which areas I need to improve. He also connected me with lots of musicians and I got opportunities to work with big artists like Elisabeth Troy (Clean Bandit), Jodie Abacus, Kristy Wild, Amy Swift and more. All of his advice and the many opportunities I got helped to get ready and successfully transition from university into the music industry.

Stay tuned for his new single, ‘Good Vibes’, coming soon on Sirup Music.
