For the first time since Jeff Buckley’s passing, his manager. Dave Lory, is sharing what it was like working with the revered and critically celebrated singer-songwriter who died tragically in 1997 at just 30.
This spring, Dave Lory’s “Jeff Buckley From Hallelujah To The Last Goodbye,” written with music journalist Jim Irvin, is being released May 29th by Post Hill Press, and distributed by Simon and Schuster.
“There is no better person to tell the real story of Jeff’s career in the spotlight than Dave Lory,” says Post Hill Press publisher, Anthony Ziccardi. As Jeff’s manager, Dave was by his side and speaks the truth about Jeff’s life as a person and a professional musician.”
“I’ve never been able to tell it from my perspective before, nor have I participated in any of the books or interviews previously written,” says Lory. “Apart from a few select occasions, I have refused to talk about my time with this unique artist. I found it too painful, too raw to revisit, for decades, but now I’m ready to tell my side of his story and to share my memories of the artist who burned so bright for too short a time but left a mark that is finding more new, devoted fans with every passing year.”
Buckley died in a swimming incident on May 29th, 1997 in the Wolf River outside Memphis. He was in Memphis to begin pre-production on his second studio album to follow-up his breakthrough 1994 album “Grace.”
The book includes interviews from those who worked with Lory, and who were close to Buckley including photographer Merri Cyr, Steve Abbott, president of Big Cat Records, producer Andy Wallace, drummer Matt Johnson, Jeff’s best friend Chris Dowd; and former Columbia Records staffers Steve Berkowitz (A&R), Leah Reid (Marketing Manager), Julie Borchard (Head of International), Samantha Way (European Promotion Manager) and Sara Silver (European Marketing Manager) among others.
