Facebook and Instagram have never been afraid to find “inspiration” in the features and successes of others. And ever since Zukerberg failed to acquire Snapchat, that popular service has become his most frequent muse.

Today, Instagram announced Stories, a new feature that lets users share their multiple photos and videos in a slideshow format – ” your story.” Taking a play right from the Snapchat playbook and its story feature, Instagram “Stories” will only be available for 24 hours and then disappear.
“Stories” are presented as a separate feed – a row of avatars at the top of the regular Instagram feed (see below). Each represents an account followed on Instagram, and contains every photo and video clip (up to 10 seconds) that they’ve posted to their stories feed in the last 24 hours. An algorithm shows the users favorite accounts first.
“With Instagram Stories, you don’t have to worry about overposting,” says Instagram. “Instead, you can share as much as you want throughout the day — with as much creativity as you want. You can bring your story to life in new ways with text and drawing tools. The photos and videos will disappear after 24 hours and won’t appear on your profile grid or in feed.”
Instagram Storie launches today ion the US and will be rolling out globally over the next few weeks on iOS and Android.
