Apple Music now has 56 million subscribers, according to a new report. That’s up 6 million since April, when CEO Tim Cook announced a 50 million milestone. Spotify, which has an estimated 90 million paid users, is adding subscribers at almost twice Apple’s rate.
Apple’s past and current stats include free subscribers. The new Apple numbers come via The Financial Times.
Apple recently acquired Shazam to boost its music service. The song recognition app recently cut off access to competing music services and could be a major future driver for Apple Music. Apple is also rumored to be considering a major investment or partnership in iHeartMedia.
