Alison Bonny is leaving Spotify after eight years as Communications Director for Europe, Middle East and Africa. Bonny joined when Spotify had just a million subscribers and exits as it passes 200 million active users.
The respected executive also spearheaded many of the streamer’s international launches.
I’m not prone to writing goodbye posts, particularly to people that I’ve never met. But from a time before Spotify’s launch in the US onward Bonny has been one the most straightforward and responsive of the many PR people that I deal with. That’s not a diss to any of Spotify’s (or anyone else’s) comms team in New York and elsewhere.
Perhaps because Bonny lived in a time zone five hours earlier, she was often the only Spotify contact awake when I was conscientious/crazy enough to be writing some breaking news or attempting to explain a new feature at 5AM. I only know that Bonny always answered quickly and with useful background. Not that she wasn’t afraid to tell me when she thought that I was wrong. But those times were few, even when our coverage was less than flattering.
I’ll miss you Alison and I know that I’m not the only one.
