The Mummy Tops Weekend Box Office Results

image from www.celebrityaccess.comIn another sign that we’ve entered the twilight era of originality in the movie business, Warner Bros. “Wonder Woman” was knocked from its perch atop the weekend box office pile by Universal’s reboot of the “Mummy” franchise. 

Starring Tom Cruise, Nick Morton and Annabelle Wallis, and directed by Alex Kurtzman, ‘The Mummy’ earned $141.8 million worldwide this weekend according to estimates compiled by comScore, and set the record as Tom Cruise’s biggest international opening weekend. 

While ‘The Mummy’ easily made its $125 million production costs, it was a relatively slow starter in North America, where it opened in second place to just $32.4m, lagging behind ‘Wonder Woman’ which added another $57.2M, crossing the $400m cumulative mark worldwide. 

Disney’s ‘Pirates Caribbean:Dead Men Tell No Tales’ kept chugging along as well, adding $45.5M worldwide for a cumulative total take of more than $600 million.
