Move Over Music, Spotify App Redesign Spotlights Podcasts

Spotify new rectangleSpotify’s $500 million investment in podcasting is driving a new version of its app that will give podcasts more prominence. The goal is to make it easier to find and listen to podcasts.

Its unclear how the changes will effect music and music discovery is unclear. But its hard to imagine that any move that means less real estate on the app would not have a negative effect.

“Tabs at the top of users’ libraries display the words ‘music’ and ‘podcasts’ in a large font,” sources tell Bloomberg, “making podcasts more prominent and accessible than they are now. Spotify has already tested the changes for some users, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the plans aren’t public yet.”
