Radio Still Rules Music Discovery Despite Streaming Growth [CHART]

OldradioWhile streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music are growing exponentially, the 2017 edition of Nielsen’s Music 360 report found that 49% of people still discover new music on AM and FM broadcast radio.

As you can see in the chart after the jump from Statista, that compares 27% who say they discover music on online music services.

Music discovery is one of the largest ways music streaming services have tried to differentiate themselves. Spotify, for example, creates “Discover Weekly” and “Release Radar” playlists built from each user’s listening habits.

According Nielsen, the main reason love radio is because of the DJs – a feature streaming services would find difficult and expensive to replicate.
